Pneumococcal Cerebrospinal Meningitis: A Rare Complication of Pediatric Temporal Bone Fracture

Meningitis is a rare and potentially serious complication in children with temporal bone fractures. We present an unusual case of 7-year-old girl pneumococcal meningitis complicated by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage following transverse fracture the left bone. She had otorrhea resolved spontaneously early stage hospitalization. At 4 days post-discharge, patient returned headache, fever, neck stiffness, voiding difficulty, bilateral abducens nerve palsy. Magnetic resonance images demonstrated intense uniform contrast enhancement cerebral cisterns sacral roots. Laboratory analysis culture diagnosed caused Streptococcus pneumonia. was discharged home after getting intravenous ceftriaxone for 5 weeks. Follow-up required constant vigilance included multidisciplinary approach. 7 months head trauma, child well no neurological auditory deficits.
